FOR THOSE BORN BEFORE 1961
Eligibility: Decreto-Lei nº 308-A/75 de 24 de Junho, Artº 1º e):
Those born in the territories of the erstwhile "Estado da Índia", who declare their wish to maintain their Portuguese nationality.
The remaining descendants up to the 3rd generation of the Portuguese, referred to above, and who have not declared their wish not to be Portuguese.
Documents needed:
Indian Passport (original and an apostiled copy);
Any other photo ID proof. Examples: Aadhar Card, Election Card, Driving Licence (original and a apostiled copy);
Birth Certificate of the applicant (TEOR);
Residence Certificate, with a photograph of the applicant, pasted and attested by the issuing authority, stating the complete residential address of the same (obtained from the Mamladar / Panchayat);
Additional proof of residence of the applicant, specifically for the period from 01-01-1974 to 31-12-1975 (School / College / Employment / Church Certificate);
Original old document (applicant or his/her parents) issued by the Portuguese authorities before 1961;
Death certificate (if applicable).
The applicant can submit one of the following examples of old documents issued by the erstwhile Portuguese authority in Antigo Estado da Índia:
“Bilhete de Identidade” issued by the “Arquivo de Identificação do Estado da India”;
Cédula Pessoal;
Portuguese Passport;
Traveling Document.
The applicant born in either Goa, Daman, Diu or Dadra and Nagar Haveli prior to 19-12-1961 or 24-06-1954 ( In the case of Dadra & Nagar Aveli) must submit one of the above mentioned documents issued by the erstwhile Administration of Antigo Estado da Índia, compulsorily:- "Bilhete de Identidade; Cédula Pessoal; Portuguese Passport; Documento de Viagem”.
Upon completion of registration process, the applicant will receive a free original “Assento de Nascimento” from Portugal via local postal service.
All original documents (except the Passport) issued in English or in a local language must be accompanied by a Portuguese translation.
All Indian documents and respective translations (except the old document) must be attested with apostille by Ministry of External Affairs of India.
Documents issued outside India should be attested with apostille of the respective issuing country. In case the country is not a member of the Hague Convention, the document should be attested by Consulate / Embassy of Portugal in the area of jurisdiction of the said country.
Kindly note that only certificates valid within six months from the date of issuance will be accepted.

FOR THOSE BORN AFTER 1961
Documents needed:
Indian Passport (original and an apostiled copy);
Any other photo ID proof. Examples: Aadhar Card, Election Card, Driving Licence (original and a apostiled copy);
Birth Certificate of the applicant (applicant’s name and parents’ name have to be in conformity with the Passport). Note: Birth up to 1970 must be "Teor”;
Photoopies of "Assento de Nascimento and “Assento de Casamento" of the parent(s) whose birth is registered Portugal;
Birth certificate of the parent who is not a Portuguese national;
Upon completion of registration process, the applicant will receive a free original "Assento de Nascimento" from Portugal via local postal service.
All original documents (except the Passport) issued in English or in a local language must be accompanied by a Portuguese translation.

*Money Order of Euros 175, issued by the Post Office in Portugal, in favour of “Instituto dos Registos e do Notariado, Lisboa”.
