PASSPORT

The Portuguese electronic Passport is an individual’s travel document, which allows the bearer to enter and leave national territory, as well as the territory of other States that recognize the document’s function. 

Any Portuguese citizen is entitled to apply for a Passport. 

The Passport is valid for 5 years. For children under the age of four, the Passport is valid for two years.

 

For First Time Application / Renewal:

Passport must be applied for at the Consulate in person.

Passport can be renewed once the validity expires or within 6 months before the date of its expiry.

Documents needed:

  • Valid original "Bilhete de Identidade" / "Cartão de Cidadão";

  • Original Passport (for renewal).

 

Those applicants that are not registered at the Consulate General of Portugal in Goa, need to carry along with them two recent photographs (passport size, white background), a photocopy of "Assento de Nascimento" and "Assento de Casamento" (if marriage registered in Portugal), and photocopies of "Bilhete de Identidade" / "Cartão de Cidadão", Passport, OCI and address proof along with originals.

For those under 18 years of age, citizens suffering any mental disability, the Passport may be requested by the parents or legal guardians, in the presence of the applicant.

In case of first time Passport application for minors (below 18 years of age), both parents need to be accompanying the minor along with their valid Passports and photocopies of the same. In the absence of any one parent, a Power of Attorney authorising the other parent, to apply for the minors passport, needs to be given to the accompanying parent along with a photocopy of the ID mentioned in the POA. The POA and the Indian passport needs to be attested with apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs of India. In case of Portuguese BI / CC / passport, it can be attested by Portugues authorities / EU local autorities or Apostille.

 

In case of Loss / Theft of Passport:

Documents needed:

  • FIR Police Report;

  • Valid Original "Bilhete de Identidade" / "Cartão de Cidadão";

  • Photocopy of Passport.

 

Collection of Passport: Passport can be collected either by the applicant himself or by another individual holding a notarised Power of Attorney issued by the applicant, authorising him/her for its collection, within 6 months.

In case of minors, anyone parent may collect the Passport of the child.

Entry Time for Collection: from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
