MARRIAGE REGISTRATION

 

Documents needed

Portuguese National:

  • Bilhete de Identidade / Citizen’s Card or Passport (original and a photocopy);

  • Photocopy of “Assento de Nascimento”.

 

Indian/Foreign National:

  • Passport (original and a photocopy);

  • Birth Certificate;

  • Marriage Certificate (“Teor”) issued by the Civil Register (all elements have to be in conformity with the “Assento de Nascimento” / Birth Certificate).

  • Marriage certificate issued by the Church / Temple / Masjid, in case of religious marriages (all elements have to be in conformity with the “Assento de Nascimento” / Birth Certificate);

  • Death Certificate, if applicable.

 

As per article 136 of the Civil Code, it is necessary for the married couple to be present on the day of the appointment in order to sign a declaration for the purpose of transcription of marriage. In case either one of them is unable to be present on the day, a power of attorney should be produced for the purpose of transcription of marriage, attested with apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

 

Upon completion of registration process, the applicant will be intimated by the Consulate General to collect a free original Marriage Certificate.

 

All original documents issued in English or in a local language (with the exception of Passport and Adhaar Card) must be accompanied by a Portuguese translation;

All Indian documents and respective translations must be attested with apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

Documents issued outside India should be attested with apostille of the respective issuing country. In case the country is not a member of the Hague Convention, the document should be attested by Consulate / Embassy of Portugal in the area of jurisdiction of the said country.

Kindly note that only certificates valid within six months from the date of issuance will be accepted.

BIRTH REGISTRATION OF MINOR

 

Documents needed

Minor (Below 18 Years Old):

  • Passport (original and a photocopy);

  • Birth Certificate;

  • Live Birth Medical Certificate (Hospital document) indicating time of birth.

 

In case of a minor above 14 years, any other photo ID proof can be presented, for instance, Adhaar Card or school ID (original and a photocopy);

In case both parents are Portuguese nationals and the child has no Indian Passport / Adhaar Card, then two witnesses are required with valid Passports (originals and xerox copies).

 

Parents of Minor Child:

  • Passport / ID card of both the parents (originals and xerox copies);

  • Photocopy of “Assento de Nascimento” of the parent whose birth is registered in Portugal;

  • Photocopy of “Assento de Casamento”;

  • Original Birth Certificate of the parent who is an Indian / Foreign national.

 

Note that both parents and the minor need to be personally present along with all the above mentioned documents. In the absence of any one parent, a power of attorney may be presented. It has to be duly translated and attested with apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

DEATH REGISTRATION

 

Documents needed

  • Death Certificate;

  • Identification document of declarant (original and a photocopy).

  • Burial / cremation certificate

 

Upon completion of registration process, the declarant will be intimated by the Consulate General to collect a free original Death Certificate.

 

All original documents issued in English or in a local language (with the exception of Passport and Adhaar Card) must be accompanied by a Portuguese translation;

All Indian documents and respective translations must be attested with apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs of India.
