ELECTORAL REGISTRATION

 

Portuguese nationals can register themselves at the Consulate General of Portugal in Goa for the purpose of voting for elections held in Portugal.

 

Registration:

Voters living abroad must register at the Embassy or Consulate of Portugal responsible for their area of residence.

  • Every voter has the right and the duty to promote his/her electoral registration, as well as assuring their registration and, in case of error or omission, to request its correction (article 3, paragraph 1 of Law 13/99).

  • Electoral registration has permanent effects and may only be cancelled in those cases and terms foreseen by law (article 5 of Law 13/99).

  • Electoral registration is unique for all elections through universal and direct suffrage (article 6 of Law 13/99).

  • No one can be registered to vote more than once (article 7 of Law 13/99).

  • Citizens over the age of 18 may register to vote, as well as those over the age of 17, provisionally, automatically becoming voters when turning 18 (article 35, paragraphs 1 and 2 of Law 13/99).

 

Documents needed:

Valid original bilhete de Identidade / Cartão de Cidadão / Portuguese Passport.
